Since his recent return, Bill Berdux, Applica's chief sales and marketing officer, has been renewing Bay Area contacts, established when he was marketing the "Applica U2" for Concurrent Controls and its sister product the "Buddy" between 1997 and 2000. "We had strategic alliances and joint marketing programs with industry leaders that gained us exposure and credibility in the industry," explained Mr. Berdux. "Our support for CRM applications including ACT!, GoldMine and Outlook lead to strategic alliances that opened up business with many SMBs and SOHOs," Berdux added.

"Reluctance by many value added resellers, distributors and retailers to market and promote our multi-user products in the early days was overcome when we inked deals with IBM and Corel to support Lotus SmartSuite and WordPerfect Office and when Juno Online Services joined us in a retail promotion for Internet sharing in the home," said Berdux.

The San Francisco Bay Area, home to Silicone Valley in the South Bay, Telecom Valley in the North Bay and a burgeoning Multimedia enclave in the East Bay, is to the high tech industry what Madison Avenue is to the advertising industry. Applica's CEO, Albert Cohen, recognized a need to have a presence in this high tech mecca. "We have quietly built a global business, shipping nearly half a million Applica multi-user software licenses worldwide," Cohen explained and added that, "With our recent line extensions and the emergence of the HDTV as a mainstream product supported by expanded broadband cable services, we decided the time was right to come out of the closet and make a splash.
